It’s officially the holidays — can you feel it yet? Everything’s winding down and in the blink of an eye, *poof* it’s already the new year! 2018 has definitely gone by quickly, and with it came heartbreaks, familiar struggles, some challenges. But let’s not forget all that we gained from the year too; we got better at work, we learned how to cope with bad luck and sadness, but most of all, it was a year of growth.
And so as we close the year, we’d like to give our thanks and love to all. A new year is coming, which only means new beginnings, new journeys, new opportunies, and even more learnings. 2019 is something to definitely be excited about, and don’t worry — we got your back when things get too rough.
Here, @thegvom team would like to share with you the biggest learnings we got from 2018 (check it out down there 👇🏻). Sound off in the comments below to share your year’s learnings too!
My biggest learning from the year is be fearless in the pursuit of what makes you happy. And do everything with love. Sprinkle that everywhere!
Cola Paclibar, GVOM Founder
Whatever you got from 2018, I say bring it with you over to 2019. Not as baggage, but as learnings. To continue learning from them, to make the better decision when faced with the same problem. To learn how to take time to absorb before reacting, to making sure you’re always doing what’s best for you. I’ve learned that we’re all just vessels in this life, and our purpose is simply to be our authentic selves, that is all. Because that is the key to happiness in spite all the storms that are chasing you from behind. Because in the distance, you may see dark, gray clouds but there’s still something more behind that, it’s just not visible to you yet.

Looking back, that’s really how I would describe it— 2018 was my season for growth. I was pushed to do things out of my comfort zone and I was put in situations I never in a million years would see myself in, but it all helped me become who I am today. I feel like the biggest takeaway for me this past year was really to just be more confident in myself; and coming to terms with the fact that there will always be someone prettier, someone smarter— but everyone has that, BEYONCE has that! But it’s also coming to terms with the fact that I am my own person and I’m not perfect, but I’m pretty damn amazing! I learned how to be more comfortable in my skin, how to love myself a little bit more and most importantly: I learned not to take anyone telling me I wasn’t good enough. I worked hard to be where I am today and I am in a place where I am happy and healthy and it feels freaking amazing!

The biggest learning I’ve gained over the year is to really know your worth whether it is with interpersonal relationships or in other situations, and to also continue growing. I went through a short phase where I wouldn’t let myself grow as a creative or as a person and that hindered my progress before I could realise what was happening and eventually get right back on track. Keep evolving and don’t let anyone stop you from prospering.
Surya Urs, Production Manager
My biggest learning of the year is not everything will go according to your plan and that everything that happened is not for life to go against you but for you.
Melissa Morales, Executive Assistant
My biggest learning from 2018 is communication. I realized that for people to understand you, opening up is necessary. I learned that I had to communicate what I want or feel to the people around me, and I’ll be doing more of that next year. Oh and of course, always being grateful everyday!
Michelle Morales, Social Media Manager
This year has been a roller coaster ride, but it was a fun one, with a ton of new memories to hold on to and to learn from. I opened myself more this year to the world and not always hiding in my shell, and it was thanks to the people I encountered this year. Who would have thought these strangers would become one of my favourite people in the world? I learned not to be afraid to try new things and that it is okay to show the world your true self. I learned to appreciate the little things in life and the people around, who helped me grow both as an artist and as a person. I’m excited for what 2019 has in store!
